Marine environmental pollution in Nha Trang Bay: Assessment, causes, and green solutions for sustainable development

Abstract

Nha Trang Bay, a renowned tourist destination, faces significant marine pollution from industrial activities, tourism, and urbanization. This study assessed pollution levels and proposes sustainable solutions. Data analysis revealed excessive microplastics, heavy metals, and organic waste, exceeding permissible limits. These pollutants pose risks to the marine ecosystem and human health. A cost-benefit analysis evaluated green solutions, including wastewater treatment, plastic reduction, and eco-tourism. Plastic reduction and eco-tourism offer immediate benefits, while wastewater treatment requires long-term investment but is crucial for long-term pollution control. This study concluded that a combination of short-term and long-term solutions is essential for protecting Nha Trang Bay's marine environment. Future research should expand the scope and integrate socio-economic factors to support sustainable development.
