Isolating and evaluating bio-activity of crinamidine from crinum latifolium by using the preparative HPLC method

Abstract
Crinum latifolium (Amaryllidaceae), commonly known as Trinh nu hoang cung, is a widely utilized medicinal herb for treating tumors in the urinary and reproductive systems. According to the Vietnamese Pharmacopoeia V, crinamidine is employed as a marker compound for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of this herb. However, the current market price of this reference standard is relatively high. This study employed preparative HPLC methods to isolate 504.1 mg of crinamidine with a purity of 98.95%. The compound demonstrated its antiinflammatory activity on RAW264.7 cells with an IC50 of 158.13 µg/ml and exhibited strongest anticancer effects on A549 cell lines (inhibiting 46.58% at a concentration of 100 µg/ml). Preliminary results indicated that this compound contributes to the anti-inflammatory and antitumor effects of Crinum latifolium.
