16. A Study on the Factors Affecting the Behavior of Choosing Alternative Means of Transport for Motorbikes in Hanoi

Abstract
From the perspective of vehicle users, this study aims to clarify the factors affecting the
behavior of choosing alternative means of transport for motorbikes. The study analyzes 800
samples collected from people living in Hanoi. Besides the traditional factors used in the model,
the study adds two more factors, namley Attitude to vehicles and Health awareness based on the
basis of cultural characteristics and traffic context. The study finds out that cultural factors
influence the behavior of people to choose means of transport. The factors of Family structure and
Attitudes towards vehicles are two of major barriers when people choose other means of transport
instead of motorbikes in urban areas. In addition, the factor of Health awareness affects the
behavior of choosing a means of transport. This study is expected to develop theoretical basis for
the vehicle management policies of Hanoi in the coming time.
