Hệ thống thông tin quản lý là công cụ quan trọng của doanh nghiệp nhằm hỗ trợ nhà quản trị trong việc ra quyết định. Trong hệ thống thông tin quản lý, các báo cáo nói chung và báo cáo về hoạt động sản xuất (hoặc cung ứng dịch vụ) của doanh nghiệp nói riêng (hay được gọi là các báo cáo sản xuất) đóng vai trò là thành phần thiết yếu, giúp theo dõi và phân bổ nguồn lực, kiểm soát chất lượng, đánh giá hiệu suất và các lãng phí đang tồn tại trong hệ thống. Bài viết trình bày khái quát lý thuyết về báo cáo sản xuất như công cụ quan trọng của quản lý trợ giúp doanh nghiệp nâng cao khả năng cạnh tranh trong bối cảnh cạnh tranh ở cấp độ toàn cầu như hiện nay.
