Evaluation of chemical composition of deep eutectic solvent extract from mangosteen peel (Garcinia mangostana L.) using LC-MS Q-ToF

Abstract

Mangosteen peel (Garcinia mangostana L.), an agricultural by-product, is rich in bioactive compounds. This study evaluates the chemical composition of extracts obtained from mangosteen peel using a green extraction method with deep eutectic solvents (DES), analyzed by LC-MS Q-ToF, and compares them with conventional ethanol extracts. The environmental performance of the methods was assessed using Green Extraction Tree (GET), AGREEprep, and Sample Preparation Metric of Sustainability (SPMS). Results show that both DES and ethanol extracts contain various bioactive compound groups such as phenolics, polyphenols, flavonoids, coumarins, and triterpenoids. The DES method achieved higher green scores (GET 24/28, AGREEprep 0.69, SPMS 7.58), indicating its strong potential as a sustainable alternative to conventional organic solvents for extracting bioactive compounds from mangosteen peel.
