Application of a rapid test kit for detecting borax in food products circulating in Thu Dau Mot City
Published: July 20, 2026
Abstract
This study presents the application results of a rapid test kit for detecting borax, including curcumin indicator paper and an HCl buffer solution, to examine borax contamination in 90 food samples collected from five traditional markets in Thu Dau Mot City. The results showed that 60 out of 90 samples (66.7%) tested positive for borax, with the highest detection rates found in pork sausage (92.3%), tofu skin (86.7%), and vegetarian sausage (85.7%). The findings highlight a significant risk of borax contamination in foods sold in traditional markets and confirm the practical value of the curcumin-based test kit as a simple, rapid, and effective screening tool for food safety monitoring in the community.
