Sự gia tăng nhu cầu tiếp cận dịch vụ y tế chất lượng với chi phí hợp lý đã thúc đẩy cạnh tranh giữa các điểm đến trong việc thu hút khách du lịch y tế quốc tế. Nghiên cứu này nhằm phân tích quá trình hình thành hình ảnh điểm đến du lịch y tế thông qua tổng hợp các lý thuyết và kết quả nghiên cứu trước đây. Bằng phương pháp nghiên cứu định tính dựa trên tổng quan tài liệu, nghiên cứu đề xuất mô hình gồm 3 giai đoạn: nhận thức điểm đến, cảm nhận điểm đến và hình thành hình ảnh điểm đến. Kết quả cho thấy niềm tin, lợi ích cảm nhận và rủi ro cảm nhận đóng vai trò quan trọng trong quá trình hình thành hình ảnh điểm đến du lịch y tế. Trên cơ sở đó, nghiên cứu đề xuất một số hàm ý nhằm thu hút khách du lịch y tế đến Việt Nam.
