Impact of ESG disclosure on financial performance: Evidence from listed industrial firms in Vietnam

Abstract

This study examines the impact of ESG disclosure on the financial performance of listed industrial companies in Vietnam. The study uses data from 187 companies over the period 2020–2025. Financial performance is measured by return on assets (ROA), while the ESG disclosure score, standardized on a scale from 0 to 100, serves as the main independent variable. The findings indicate that ESG disclosure has a positive and statistically significant effect on ROA in both the pooled ordinary least squares and random effects models. The results suggest that ESG disclosure is positively associated with the financial performance of listed industrial firms in Vietnam, although this relationship should be interpreted with caution, as firm-specific characteristics may simultaneously influence both ESG disclosure practices and financial performance.
