Enhancing the role of Vietnamese enterprises in innovation and global value chain upgrading to create new drivers of growth

This study examines the role of Vietnamese enterprises in innovation and global value chain (GVC) upgrading during the 2020–2025 period, focusing on enterprise development, the extent of international integration and participation in GVCs, innovation capacity, and key bottlenecks in increasing value added. The findings show that although enterprise development, innovation capacity, and the level of international integration have improved, Vietnamese enterprises still face limitations in technological mastery, linkages with the foreign direct investment (FDI) sector, and their ability to move into higher-value-added stages of global value chains. Based on these findings, the study proposes solutions to strengthen the role of enterprises in innovation, facilitate GVC upgrading, and increase domestic value added, thereby creating new drivers of economic growth.
