Experiences in sustainable tourism development in selected Southeast Asian (ASEAN) countries and implications for Vietnam

As the global tourism industry places increasing emphasis on environmental, economic, and social considerations, sustainable tourism development has become an important strategic direction for many countries. In Southeast Asia, countries such as Thailand, Singapore, and Indonesia have implemented policies and models aimed at balancing tourism development with natural resource conservation, cultural preservation, and improved livelihoods for local communities. By examining these countries’ experiences, this study clarifies approaches to destination management, community-based tourism development, technology application, and environmental protection. On this basis, it proposes lessons and policy implications for Vietnam in developing and implementing sustainable tourism strategies in the coming years.
