Evaluation of newly collected flue-cured tobacco germplasm accessions in Lang Son Province

Abstract

This study evaluates the agrobiological characteristics, field disease incidence, yield, and cured-leaf quality of 10 local flue-cured tobacco germplasm accessions collected in Lang Son in 2025, using GL7 as the control. The experiment was conducted in Spring 2026 using a randomized complete block design with three replications. Eight accessions, LS3 - LS10, produced significantly higher cured-leaf yields than GL7. LS4 achieved the highest yield at 3.08 t/ha, 31.6% above the control, while LS8 recorded the highest proportion of Grade 1+2 leaves at 63.4%. Nicotine content ranged from 1.18% to 1.72% and reducing sugars from 20.6% to 26.7%. LS4, LS8, and LS9 were identified as promising accessions for yield, leaf grading, and sensory quality, although further evaluation is required.
