Legal status and practice of corporate lawyers in Vietnam: Current situation and recommendations for improvement

This study examines the legal status and practice of corporate lawyers in Vietnam, focusing on their position, rights, obligations, and responsibilities when working for enterprises under employment contracts. Using synthesis, legal analysis, descriptive statistics, and selected foreign legal experience, the study evaluates the current framework and identifies practical issues. The findings indicate that Vietnamese law provides a foundation for corporate lawyers’ professional activities. However, regulations concerning their scope of practice, professional management, support, and protection require further improvement, while separate statistical data on this group remain limited. The study recommends improving the legal framework, strengthening professional management and support, developing appropriate mechanisms to protect the confidentiality of legal communications, and enhancing the training of corporate legal professionals. These measures can strengthen corporate lawyers’ role in legal compliance, risk management, corporate governance, and sustainable business development.
