Environmental pollution in Chanh Thon wood processing craft Village and solutions

Abstract

This study examines the current state of production and environmental pollution in Chanh Thon woodworking village, Nam Tien commune, Hanoi. Based on field investigations and survey data, the findings indicate that key production processes, including sawing, planing, sanding, carving, and painting, generate substantial quantities of wood dust, significantly degrading local air quality. In addition to particulate emissions, exhaust gases and toxic vapors released during painting and machinery operation further exacerbate environmental deterioration. The analysis identifies principal underlying causes, including small-scale, fragmented production, outdated equipment, insufficiently coordinated investment, and limited environmental awareness among producers. The study thereby provides a comprehensive assessment of pollution sources and contributing factors within the craft village context.
