Impact of digital transformation on the financial performance of heritage economy in Vietnam: International experiences and proposed models
Published: June 28, 2026
Abstract
This study examines the impact of digital transformation on the financial performance of heritage economies within the context of cultural tourism in Vietnam and develops an integrated research model at the local level. Grounded in the resource-based view and dynamic capabilities theory, heritage is conceptualized as an economic asset capable of generating value through digitalization, experiential innovation, and governance mechanisms. Using simulated data comprising 320 observations and employing PLS-SEM, the results indicate that heritage value, digital capabilities, experiential innovation, community participation, and governance support all exert positive effects on destination-level financial performance, with digital capabilities and their interaction with heritage value demonstrating particularly strong influence. The findings highlight the central role of digital-enabled value creation and multi-stakeholder governance in shaping the performance and sustainability of heritage-based economic systems
