A study on the production of magnesium sulfate modified biochar from rice straw and its adsorption capacity for methylene blue

Abstract

This study explores the production of magnesium sulfate modified biochar from rice straw and the adsorption capacity of magnesium sulfate modified biochar for methylene blue. By using the response surface method, this study determines the optimal denaturation conditions. In which, the rice straw biochar is soaked with MgSO₄ 0,38 M for 233 minutes. The modified biochar has a good adsorption capacity for methylene blue. Its adsorption process complies with the Langmuir isotherm model and its maximum adsorption capacity is at 66,23 mg/g. The magnesium sulfate modified biochar is a potential material for removing methylene blue in wastewater.
