Increasing the content of eucalyptol in cajeput essential oil by using the vacuum fractional distillation

Abstract

In this study, the vacuum fractionation method is used to separate raw Cajeput essential oil into fractions based on different boiling temperatures. The study finds out four fractions that are very different in sensory. The used operating parameters include the pressure of 60 mmHg, stainless steel string (size 2 × 10 mm), and column height of 500 mm. The obtained eucalyptol content and recovery at these conditions are 74.8 and 96.4%, respectively. The obtained eucalyptol content are much higher than the minimum value (40%) specified in local technical regulations for Hue cajeput oil (QCDP 1:2017/TT-H).
