Preparation and characterization of ZIF-8 based on zinc waste from electric arc furnace dust for textile dyes adsorption

Abstract

In this study, ZIF-8 material was synthesized from zinc waste from electric arc furnace dust (EAFD) and 2-methylimidazolate at different ratio and times. The structures of these material examples were analyzed by various methods such as: X-ray diffraction and FT-IR infrared spectroscopy. The SEM results show the shape and size distribution of ZIF-8 crystals become more evenly when the synthesization time is prolonged. The synthesized material is used as an adsorbent for the Reactive Blue-19 and other textile dyes in aqueous solution. The results showed that the adsorption efficiency of ZIF-8 with Reactive Blue-19 was the highest and reached 77.8%.
