Some assessments and recommendations to the Government of Vietnam about the implementation of the RCEP’s commitments on government procurement in relation to the CPTPP

The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) was signed on November 15, 2020 and came into force on January 1, 2022. After the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), which was signed in March 2018 and entered into force on December 30, 2018, the RCEP is the second regional comprehensive trade agreement that Vietnam has joined. By analyzing and comparing specific regulations on government procurement under the RCEP and the CPTPP, this paper explores the legal provisions and notable differences between the two agreements. It also assesses the prospects for implementing the government procurement commitments under the RCEP and provides recommendations to Vietnam on approaches to effectively implement these commitments.
