The effect of azadirachtin-based biopesticide to the prevention of coconut black headed caterpillar in Ben Tre province

Abstract
Considering the emerging threats of pests to the coconut cultivation in Ben Tre province (Vietnam), this study was conducted to evaluate the activity of azadirachtin-based biopesticide against the coconut black-headed caterpillar (Opisina arenosella). Accordingly, the sample with 2% of azadirachtin provided a good insecticidal activity in comparison with Reasgant 3.6EC - a commercial pesticide. Although the studied samples exhibited lower bioactivity than the controls (85% and 92% respectively after 7 days), no adverse effect was observed on the growth of coconut trees during the field experiments.
