The Role of Defense Counsel in Criminal Proceedings: Regulations and Some Practical Cases

In criminal proceedings, the accused's right to defense has a close relationship with the defense counsel because the defense counsel plays the role of protecting the accused's legitimate rights and interests; contributing together with the procedure-conducting agencies to uncover the objective truth of the case; preventing wrongful prosecution, wrongful conviction, and omission of crimes; ensuring justice and democracy in the judicial system; and protecting socialist legality. This paper analyzes the important role of defense counsel in criminal proceedings.
