Green finance in Vietnam: Opportunities, challenges, and directions
Published: July 29, 2026
Abstract
As Vietnam grapples with the pressing challenges of climate change and sustainable development, green finance emerges as a critical component of its economic trajectory. This study examined the evolution of the green finance market in Vietnam and the pivotal role of financial institutions in fostering projects aligned with renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and carbon reduction goals. A key driver for the expansion of green finance is the strengthening of the legal and policy framework, incentivizing banks and investors to participate in environmentally sustainable initiatives. However, significant obstacles such as a shortage of specialized human resources, incomplete information systems, and policy inconsistencies among regulatory bodies persist.
