The role of the supporting industry in economic growth: the case of the automobile industry in Vietnam

Abstract

This study uses qualitative and statistical analysis of data methods to summarize the limitations that hinder the development of the supporting industry in the automobile industry. The study finds that there are some problems, such as a low localization rate of raw materials, a lack of capital, low-quality technology and human resources, and limited research and training capacity. In addition, the automobile market's capacity is still small, and the traffic infrastructure has not yet met the automobile market’s growth. Based on the study’s findings, some solutions are proposed to overcome these shortcomings and promote the development of the supporting industry for the automobile industry in Vietnam.
