Trách nhiệm xã hội (TNXH) của trường đại học đang là vấn đề ngày càng nhận được sự quan tâm, chú ý và nghiên cứu của các học giả cả trên thế giới và Việt Nam. Ngoài chức năng truyền thống của các trường như trung tâm sáng tạo, truyền bá trí tuệ và kiến thức, trung tâm nghiên cứu và chuyển giao công nghệ thì chức năng cộng đồng, TNXH cũng đang là một trong những ưu tiên hàng đầu của các trường đại học khi xây dựng chiến lược phát triển. Tại Trường Đại học Công nghiệp TP. Hồ Chí Minh, phương châm “tự chủ đại học gắn liền với nâng cao TNXH” được tích hợp và triển khai cụ thể trong chiến lược phát triển của Trường. Trong khuôn khổ bài viết, tác giả sẽ trình bày tổng quan về cơ sở lý thuyết, khía cạnh và các xu hướng TNXH tại các trường đại học, đồng thời minh họa về cách thức TNXH được triển khai trong chiến lược phát triển của Trường Đại học Công nghiệp TP. Hồ Chí Minh.
