Abstract
This study evaluates the physicochemical constituents of dry and wet rice bran used as animal
feeds from four popular varieties, including OM5451, Dai Thom 8, Jasmine 85 and DS1. These
varieties were grown in the Mekong Delta in the 2022/2023 winter-spring crop. The study finds
out that the crude fat, protein, and fiber contents of the dry rice bran samples from four varieties
are higher than that of wet rice bran samples. Among rice bran samples, the DS1 rice bran has the
highest crude protein content (at 16.2%) and the crude protein from this type of rice bran should
be exploited. However, there is a sharp decrease of 11.94% in crude fat contents between the dry
rice bran and wet rice bran of the DS1 variety. This may be an undesirable characteristic of DS1
rice bran. The crude fiber content of Jasmine 85 rice bran is at 10.6%, exceeding the standard of
TCVN 10381:2014. This is caused by the high amounts of fiber in bran, so its quality is limited.
The crude fat, protein, and crude fiber contents of OM5451 rice bran are 20.5%, 14.49% and
7.2%, respectively. As a result, the OM5451 rice bran can be used as animal feeds.
