Published: July 28, 2026
Abstract
According to the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Vietnam is ranked 6th out of ten
countries with the highest tourist growth rate in the world. In addition, Vietnam is the leading
tourist destination in Asia, according to the World Tourism Alliance (WTA). However, the
rapid growth of tourism has adversely impacted on the natural environment and has created
cultural issues. In other words, these issues are a manifestation of the tourism’s unsustainable
development. Developing green tourism is an extremely urgent task for Vietnam’s tourism
industry in general and tourism businesses like hotels in particular. This paper presents the
development of green tourism in the world and its implementation into hotels in Vietnam.
