Mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) in Vietnam: Current status and development trends in the telecommunications market

Abstract

As Vietnam’s telecommunications market approaches saturation, the Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) model has emerged as a promising strategy to diversify service offerings and enhance market competitiveness. This study evaluates the current status of MVNOs in Vietnam, compares domestic developments with global trends, and identifies key factors influencing the growth of this business model. The findings indicate that MVNOs hold significant potential due to lower operational costs and their ability to target niche customer segments. However, the model still faces notable challenges, including infrastructure limitations, profitability concerns, and intense competition from established traditional network operators. The study offers insights to support the development of MVNOs as a sustainable component of Vietnam’s telecommunications landscape.
