Strategic cost accounting in the value chain and the enhancement of Vietnamese enterprises’ competitiveness

Abstract

Strategic cost accounting extends the scope of cost information beyond internal business operations to encompass relationships with suppliers, customers, and other activities throughout the value chain. This requirement has become increasingly important for Vietnamese enterprises as their participation in domestic and international supply chains expands and competition is no longer determined solely by production costs. This study examines the current application of strategic management accounting and cost management tools in Vietnamese enterprises and identifies limitations in value chain analysis, customer analysis, competitor analysis, and cost-driver analysis. On this basis, the study proposes solutions to enhance enterprise competitiveness through the effective use of strategic cost information.
