The impact of human-AI collaboration on employee work performance: Recommendations for working effectively with AI
Published: October 16, 2026
Abstract
The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) is fundamentally transforming the way employees perform their daily work. However, most existing studies remain focused on the organizational level and have not sufficiently clarified the mechanisms through which individual-level human-AI collaboration affects work performance. This review systematically synthesizes the theoretical foundations concerning the impact of human-AI collaboration on employee work performance by integrating the Knowledge-Based View, Socio-Technical Systems Theory, and the Organizational Socialization Framework, together with empirical evidence from international and Vietnamese studies. The review indicates that organizational knowledge sharing and employees’ digital and AI literacy are two important factors that facilitate effective collaboration with AI, thereby improving task performance and contextual performance while reducing counterproductive work behavior. Based on these findings, the study proposes several practical recommendations at both the individual and organizational levels to help Vietnamese employees work more effectively with AI.
