Evaluation of agrobiological characteristics, yield, and quality of male-sterile burley tobacco varieties in Dak Lak

Abstract
This study evaluates agronomic characteristics, disease incidence, yield, and leaf quality of nine introduced male-sterile burley tobacco cultivars: HB4151P, HB4155P, HB4180P, HB4198P, HB4202P, HB4488P, KT209LC, Star, and Full AFH, with KY14 as the control. A randomized complete block design with three replications was conducted in Ea Bung Commune, Dak Lak Province, during the 2025 - 2026 season. Actual yield ranged from 1.02 to 3.04 t/ha; HB4202P, HB4488P, and HB4180P yielded 3.04, 2.80, and 2.69 tons/ha, respectively. HB4488P, HB4202P, HB4151P, and Full AFH showed low wilt/black shank incidence. Principal component analysis of 28 quantitative variables showed that the first two components explained 53.63% of total variation and the first four explained 76.04%. HB4488P showed the best overall balance, while Star had the highest sensory quality but low actual yield because of severe disease incidence.
