Material flow cost accounting in Vietnamese manufacturing enterprises toward improved resource efficiency
Published: October 16, 2026
Abstract
Material Flow Cost Accounting (MFCA) is an environmental management accounting tool that enables enterprises to simultaneously identify material flows, material losses, and the associated costs arising during production. The application of MFCA can provide more detailed information on resource losses that traditional cost accounting systems may fail to identify adequately, thereby supporting enterprises in selecting measures to save materials, reduce waste, and improve production efficiency. This study examines the current application of MFCA in Vietnam, identifies the main barriers to its adoption, and proposes solutions to promote MFCA as a tool for cost management, resource efficiency, and the transition toward green production.
