Công nghiệp hóa và đô thị hóa đã đóng vai trò then chốt trong việc hình thành lịch sử châu Âu, đưa nhiều nước châu Âu từ một xã hội nông nghiệp thành những cường quốc kinh tế toàn cầu. Các quá trình này bắt đầu từ cuối thế kỷ XVIII và tăng tốc trong suốt thế kỷ XIX và XX, mang lại những thay đổi sâu sắc trong cấu trúc kinh tế, tổ chức xã hội và điều kiện môi trường.
Mặc dù công nghiệp hóa và đô thị hóa thúc đẩy tăng trưởng kinh tế chưa từng có và đổi mới công nghệ, nhưng cũng gây ra những tác động đáng kể đến môi trường, với nhiều hệ lụy còn kéo dài đến ngày nay. Bài viết phân tích những kinh nghiệm về công nghiệp hóa và đô thị hóa của châu Âu, từ đó rút ra những bài học cho Việt Nam.
