Applying the revaluation model in fixed asset accounting: A Study of companies listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange

Abstract

In Vietnam, the cost model remains the dominant approach in the accounting system, while alternative models, particularly the revaluation model for fixed asset accounting, have yet to gain widespread adoption. To align Vietnamese Accounting Standards (VAS) more closely with International Accounting Standards (IAS) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), the implementation of fair value measurement for the subsequent valuation of fixed assets warrants careful consideration. This study examines the revaluation model in fixed asset accounting, focusing on both initial recognition and subsequent measurement. By analyzing current accounting practices among companies listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HOSE), the study proposes strategic directions to promote the adoption of the revaluation model, ultimately enhancing financial reporting quality in line with global economic and regulatory trends.
